I'm on the left. This is what I wore on my house party last week. A chiffon dress in blue with embellished and cut-out details. The cute girl on the right is Mandy. <3

Lovely Mandy.

What are you going to wear for Christmas?
I'm going to stick with sequins and beads!

Hi, Jin. I recently discovered your blogs and am really enjoying them. I have a burning question though: Do HK people take their shoes off at a house party? Here in the States, we always take our shoes off when we enter an Asian person's home. But I find this often ruins the whole aesthetic of my outfit. I actually plan what I wear depending on my chances of entering an Asian person's house. If you do take your shoes off, any advice on how to dress? If you don't, oh so many implications: Do you tell them to leave their shoes on? How do you keep your floors nice? What about the dirt? I think I think about this way to much. Thanks in advance! Donna
Hi Donna,
Thanks for your comment. :)
For your questions, Asian people do take off their shoes mostly, but it's not a must - unless you're Japanese or Korean.
For me, I don't require my guest to take off their shoes because it would ruin the whole aesthetic of their outfit (as mentioned!). But most people require it. I don't require it because most of my guests are international people, and I want to see their whole outfit, also, it's troublesome to leave some space for the guests to put their shoes so there's also practical issues too.
There will be dirt on the floor, but I don't mind because you need to clean up after the house parties anyway. That's why I don't mind them keeping their shoes on. Also, it's more trendy to keep the whole outfit!
How do I keep my floors nice? I like my floors, but when it comes to house parties, you don't really care because it's the fun and chatter that matter not the dirt :)
So my perspective is very different from normal Asians. Just want you to know that they do take off their shoes.
I hope I answer your questions.
Hi, Jin. Thanks for your reply. It was very helpful. Donna
