Keep Your Voice Down if You're Wearing a Banker Collar Shirt

Banker Gordon Gekko in the banker collar shirt in the 1987 film Wall Street

The contrasting collar shirts were originally invented for giving more color varieties without losing status as the "white-collar" workforce. It's often addressed as the "banker collar" as bankers were among the first who adopted this type of shirts. It was a shirt that shouts the message "I'm high class, but I don't want to just wear white". So the primary reason was to tell people that you're high-class by creating a contrasting visual effect by having different colors on the collar and the shirt body.

Now, the banker collar shirt has gradually evolved into the favorite piece for dandies (a.k.a. playboys) simply because it's obvious, it's more easy to get spotted by human-beings' eyes and it is a low-cost way to cure your insecurity of being considered as high-class.

But I found it very irrelevant.

If you're high-status, you will look high-status regardless.
If you're high-status, you don't need your shirt to shout that loud to tell people.

But that doesn't mean that banker collar shirts have little use. It's a good piece to mix and match for a playful and modern outfit. The best use of the contrasting collar shirt is to wear it as a dress shirt with the appropriate charisma and magnetism in the right place - definitely not in a job interview. Girls wouldn't find you charming if your shirt speaks too loud and you also speak too loud at the same time. The more contrasting the collar, the more subtle you should act like. Everything needs a balance. Act like a gentleman and be appropriate. Your gesture and enchantment will distinguish you from a dandy who wears the same shirt.  Don't scared by the name "banker collar", everyone can wear it, but the only way to master it is through your mind.

I do love the white collar/blue shirt look. It's better too if the cuffs match the collar.

I also love the shirt if the person wearing this is not trying too hard.

I love the white collar/blue shirt look. With the perfect cuffs and Watch, you could look like Gordon Gekko from wall street.
